I remember a morning in May last year – day 53 of the first lockdown – cycling through the streets of Barcelona past the Arc de Triomf when the few of us that were out only had until 10am before we all had to be back inside again. We have come a long way since then, although it may not feel like it all the time and we do still have some way to go. But I cycled that same route just the other day and the city felt alive. Barcelona is buzzing again – the bars, the shops and the restaurants. And the property market is no different.
Despite this past year of uncertainty, house and apartment sales in Barcelona have been booming. I spend a lot of time at my computer, of course, but when possible, I also spend time out and about visiting Estate Agents and recently their offices have frequently been empty. I used to wonder where they all were, was this a result of the pandemic? were they now all working from home? But as they say, the money is on the streets, and they are out getting deals done.
Beautiful Barcelona
Barcelona is undeniably beautiful, even more so from the sky. If you’ve not done it before, try Googling ‘Eixample from above’. The geometry is spectacular but it is also a fantastic place in which to live, a city which offers something to everyone. Not only its extraordinarily satisfying architecture, but also its surrounding areas. To the north, the Costa Brava and the Pyrenees are a short drive away with hotspots like Sitges and Castelldefels in the opposite direction. We are truly spoilt for choice here and it is no wonder that the city has become one of the most exciting hubs in Europe.
