Hi, I’m Steve Kennedy, and I am delighted to have joined the Mortgage Direct team last year. This lets me combine my knowledge and skills acquired over many years working in property and mortgage advice with my love of living in Spain.
After completing a languages degree, and spending a year in each in France, Dubai and Jordan, I settled in Barcelona, where I taught English for business purposes, and became fluent in Spanish, as well as enjoying the Spanish lifestyle and climate. I met Sarah, now my wife, there, and we moved and bought our home in Moraira in the northern Costa Blanca. Seven years in property sales here gave me my thorough grasp of how the Spanish property purchasing process works, as well as time to indulge in scuba diving and mountain walking.
The financial crisis hit Spain hard in 2007, and we moved to the UK, where I trained and worked for 14 years as a mortgage adviser for one of the major UK banks, so I developed strong skills in presenting mortgage applications to the bank’s risk department in the best way to get a quick and favourable decision. I also discovered the hard-earned joys of cold-water scuba diving around the wrecks and rugged coastlines of Great Britain.
But we maintained our Moraira home, always with the intention of a return, and with Brexit and the pandemic focusing our minds, we decided to take the plunge and return to live here permanently, and jumped at the opportunity to work with Mortgage Direct.
So Sarah and I are back “home”, with our two new rescue cats, Cappuccino and Bombon! Loving the Spanish life again, and the chance to use my experience to help others realise their Spanish property dreams – is it strange to say the only thing I miss are those cold, windy nights watching my beloved Stoke City in my hometown?
